Dental Society Midwinter MeetingBy Laura JacqminDirected by Adrienne...

Our next Play Hotel is:

Dental Society Midwinter Meeting
By Laura Jacqmin
Directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt

Following a scandal of molar-sized proportions, the North Shore Regional Dental Society has gathered to debate the future of Midwestern dentistry as they know it. After NSRDS president Morris J. Morris, Jr., is caught with his pants down – and his dental drill up – the dentists can’t help but question: in a field obsessed with profit over health, where morality has taken a backseat to the latest fads in composite fillings, how can a group of upright dental professionals (looking for something more… filling) actually make a difference?

Colt Coeur mission:
We contemplate questions that inspire us and devise theatrical pieces which respond to and engage with the world in which we live. We address the ambivalence, terror and exhilaration of our age on the scale of person-to-person and moment-to-moment through theater that utilizes a simplicity of means to achieve richness of expression. We strive to create great happenings in small rooms, theater as close as a whisper in your ear or a stranger’s hand brushing yours. Intimacy is our way in.

Educational programming is personal for us, because we also attended under resourced urban schools and free community arts programs were our lifeline. From our free workshops to our full scale productions offered at low-ticket prices, we nurture the next generation of theater artists and attract diverse audiences. We forge an ongoing community dialogue through our Play Hotel series of workshops, open rehearsals, & free readings.

RSVP to coltcoeur@gmail.com.

Despite our youth as a company, educational programming has been at the core of our efforts since the beginning. It is personal for us, as many of us attended under-resourced urban schools and free arts programs were our lifeline.

This year, we are thrilled to present the culminating performance of our 3rd Annual Play-making Workshop with students ages 10-15 at the legendary St. Ann’s Warehouse, across the street from our DUMBO studio. The event will take place Friday, March 29th at 6:30pm (reception) with a 7pm performance. With a nod to the events of September 11th and the Occupy Movement, The Sensuality Party takes a blunt look at our culture’s obsession with pleasure, pain and the blurry spaces in between.

The stage may be small at Wild Project, but Clark and her collaborators have created a big world.”

Though I love television and movies, I’m thrilled to get back to my first and truest love. I’m deeply moved by Colt Coeur’s courage in tackling RECALL’s complex subject matter and inspired by the imagination and vision director Adrienne Campbell-Holt is already bringing to the project. We need your help though — please click on the ‘donate’ button in the upper right — and help us make this production a reality.

When I began writing RECALL, I was obsessed with serial killers and school shootings. If I were accused of murder, my Google history would be the prosecution’s most damning piece of evidence. In particular, I was interested in sociopathy and the pathology of a person who feels no guilt or remorse. I started to wonder if a person who feels no remorse really is human. RECALL takes this idea to an extreme: If we do not think of sociopaths as humans then what if there was a way to “recall” them before they hurt anyone? I’m also particularly fascinated by the way Americans often demonize children. The West Memphis Three case is a perfect example of “bad seed” mentality. Is there such a thing as a bad seed?

In other words, it’s a light, fun play and I think you’ll really enjoy yourself!
It is, actually, funny, I hope.

RECALL has been called a sci-fi play, which means that Adrienne and the entire team of brilliant actors and designers will collaborate to create a dazzling, ‘alternate present’ world— that will be weird and wildly imaginative and make you think and laugh and ask questions.

To do this, we need money. And we’re hoping you might be willing to help out with that. We need to raise $35,000—a lot I know—but I believe creating and producing mind-blowing live performance is a worthwhile cause. Colt Coeur is a 501(c)3 organization and all gifts are tax-deductible.

Thank you so much for your help! We hope you’ll come see the play in June!

Sincerely,

Eliza Clark

MARCY COMES HOME
TUESDAY, MARCH...

COLT COEUR TO READ ADAM BOCK’S

MARCY COMES HOME

TUESDAY, MARCH 13TH AT 7PM

Colt Coeur’s Play Hotel reading series will present a staged reading of Adam Bock’s Marcy Comes Home on Tuesday, March 13th at 7pm at the CoCo Studio in NYC. Directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Fish Eye, Seven Minutes in Heaven), the cast features Katya Campbell (Fish Eye), Erin Felgar (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Heidi Niedermeyer (Seven Minutes in Heaven), Gio Perez (The Language of Trees), Kate Cullen Roberts (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Debargo Sanyal (After), Matt Stadelmann (American Sligo, Seven Minutes in Heaven), and Joe Tippett (Fish Eye).

In Marcy Comes Home, homecomings are just as tough on the people who never left, and it turns out being a Hollywood starlet doesn’t teach you many real-life skills. This hilarious and irreverent comedy explores the coming-of-age of a generation, and explodes the notion that ‘coming home’ always feels good.

Adam Bock’s plays include Phaedra (Shotgun Players), A Small Fire (Playwrights Horizons, Drama Desk nomination), book for We Have Always Lived in the Castle, with music by Todd Almond (Yale Rep), The Receptionist (MTC, 2008 Outer Critics nomination, Best Plays of 2007-2008, The Evidence Room with Megan Mullally), The Drunken City (Playwrights Horizons, 2008 Outer Critics nomination), The Thugs (Soho Rep, 2007 OBIE Award for Playwriting), The Shaker Chair (2005 Humana Festival), Swimming In The Shallows (Shotgun Players, Second Stage Uptown, 2000 BATCC Award, Clauder Prize), Five Flights (Encore Theatre and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 2002 Glickman Award, ACTA nomination, Osborn nomination), and The Typographer’s Dream (Encore Theatre/Shotgun Players). Adam is the resident playwright at Encore Theatre, and a Shotgun Players Artistic Associate. He is a NEA grantee, a three-time resident at Yaddo, a former member of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, a NYTW Usual Suspect, and a TDF Open Doors mentor. Adam’s plays are published by Samuel French, Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts, Inc. He is a proud member of New Dramatists.

For 2012 —we’re more ambitious than ever. We are thrilled to announce RECALL by Eliza Clark (Edgewise, P73/Soho Rep and AMC’sThe Killing) as our Spring 2012 production, as well as the longer-term Immortality/Technology Project which we are currently developing with Steven Levenson. Over the next few weeks we’ll embark on the first of several workshops with Steven and the entire Colt Coeur company in our DUMBO studio. We plan to mount the full production next fall—making 2012 Colt Coeur’s first 2-show year! With two successful years of programming under our belt we are finally eligible for many grants—and are hard at work applying for them—but we need your help making these goals a reality.

If you believe in the infinite potential of live theater to inspire compassion, humor, ferocity, and an unapologetic sense of wonder, please join me in making a gift today to our annual fund, and investing in the future of our company. All gifts are tax-deductible and can be made online using a credit card or by mail.

Our growth would be completely impossible without your contributions. Thank you in advance for your tremendous generosity. Wishing you and your loved ones a merry holiday season!

Sincerely,

PS Just last week, our most recent production got a nod in New York Magazine’s annual wrap-up of the best downtown theatre of the year!
